South Korea officially announced the start of the implementation of the new version of electrical safety standards
South Korea began to implement the new version of the electrical safety standard KC 62368-1 on August 27, 2021.
The main changes are explained as follows:
1. The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) announced that it has officially released the new standard KC 62368-1, which is a merged version of IT and AV products, to replace K 60950-1, K 60950-22, and KC 60065. From now on, KC certification applications based on the third edition of IEC 62368-1 (IEC 62368-1: 2018) CB can be accepted.
2. There is no plan to increase the test of IEC 62368-1 second edition at present, and only the IEC 62368-1 third edition CB transfer scheme is applicable.
3. KC 62368-1 is applicable to all IT/AV equipment originally under the control of KC. The original IT equipment standard K 60950-1, K 60950-22 and AV equipment standard K 60065 can be used in parallel until December 31, 2022. Applications for the K 60950-1 standard can be accepted until 2023, and K 60950-1 applications will not be accepted from 2023.
4. The issued K 60950-1 standard certificate is still valid, but the technical changes starting from January 1, 2023 will be mandatory to upgrade to the latest version. You must apply for the KC 62368-1 standard certificate.
